Choosing
The Right Location For Your Spa or Hot Tub
One of the most important steps in purchasing a new spa is finding the right place for your
spa. Here are a few tips when choosing an outdoor location or an indoor location for you
spa or hot tub.
When choosing an outdoor spot for your spa:
-
Are there any power lines near by? NEVER put a spa/hot
tub near outdoor power lines.
-
Is this spa location easily accessible to service persons and yourself? If any maintenance needs to be done, you want to choose a spot where the electrical compartment of the spa is
not blocked.
-
How is the view from this location? Is this view private to you and to others around you? We all want a
quiet and peaceful view with privacy. Stand in the area where
you want your spa/hot tub to be. Look around and see if the
spot is right for you.
-
Is the spa location you choose easy to get to and is it free from dirt and leaves? Being free from dirt and leaves will make sure that your spa does not become dirty and fill with unwanted
debris. Surveying the area will give you a better idea of what it will be like getting in and out of the spa when your feet are wet.
-
Will the area that the spa/hot tub is placed hold the weight of the spa when filled with water and people? There are certain weight limits for the ground and a foundation will be needed for the
spa/hot tub. Be sure that the ground can support the excess weight.
-
Are you placing your spa on a deck? The same weight limits apply to wooden decks. Be sure that the deck can support the weight of a spa that is filled with water and people. Also be sure to keep in mind that the area may become slippery during use so you will need to be cautious when getting in and out.
-
Are the electrical outlets near by? Does the area meet state and local requirements? Check your local and state guidelines when it comes to installing a spa/hot
tub in your home. Certain manufacturers will void your warranty if requirements are not met.
When choosing an indoor spot for your spa:
-
Can your indoor spa/hot tub be easily delivered? When placing a spa indoors, make sure that when the spa is delivered it can fit through the doorways of your home.
-
Is this spa location easily accessible to service persons and yourself? If any maintenance needs to be done, you want to choose a spot where the electrical compartment of the spa is
not blocked.
-
Will the area that the spa is placed hold the weight of the spa when filled with water and people? The foundation in your home needs to be able to withstand the excess weight of a filled
spa/hot tub. Be sure that the ground can support the excess weight. You may want to speak to a contractor about installing a spa in your home.
-
Can you put in a floor drain? Installing spas indoors may require a floor drain to be put in. You may want to speak to a contractor about installing a spa in your home.
-
Is the indoor area for you spa well ventilated? Due to spas
and hot tubs releasing a large amount of steam and humidity, it is important that the area is well ventilated.
-
If you do decide to install a spa indoors, be sure that all surfaces (walls, ceilings and floors) can withstand the extra amount of moisture and humidity. You may want to speak to a contractor about installing a spa in your home.
Either way, if you spa is indoors or outdoors, also invest in a
spa cover to keep your spa
or hot tub covered at all times. This will keep your spa clean and safe!
